Abstract
In the period of the first wave centered on Totality and Infinity, Levinas philosophy promoted ethics as the first philosophy and popularized ‘ethics of other(s)’. In the period of the second wave centered on Otherwise than being, it was a period of debate with colleagues within France. Especially during this period, “Judaism” and “God” appear frequently in his writings. The third wave is the period when Levinas‘ research is localized in Africa, Latin America, and Korea, and as his philosophy and ethics spread over the world, it tends to evolve into applied research. One of the things that stands out especially in the third wave of Levinas' research in Africa, Latin America, and Korea is that there are a number articles that argue that Levinas's mode of expression and logic of argumentation should be reconsidered. Also in this study, i) whether there is any misunderstanding in his descriptions and comments about other(s), ii) what difficulties readers face by mixing autrui, Autrui, autre, Autre, les autres, etc. without clearly distinguishing them; iii) And finally, by pointing out the problems inherent in his mode of expression and logic of argumentation, we would like to examine why his ethics cannot be said to be an ethics for “others in general” or for “general others”, and whether his philosophy is criticized for being unsystematic and unstable.
