인류 역사상 『주역』만큼 주석서가 많은 고전은 없다. 경전의 텍스트를 독해할 때에는 그것을 독해하는 사람의 이해 지평과 문제 의식이 개입한다. 중국 사대부들의 이해지평은 정치와 밀접한 관계를 가진다. 특히 정이천(程伊川)의 『주역』 해석은 당시의 시대적 요청과 무관하지 않다. 정이천은 북송 사회의 위기와 문제점을 분석하고 사회 정치 현실 속에서 살아가는 지식인으로서의 올바른 행위방식, 즉 의리(義理)를 제시하는 방식으로 『주역』을 독해했다. 『주역』은 그러한 내용을 제시해 주기에는 매우 좋은 형식을 지니고 있다. 즉 음양(陰陽)의 착종으로 이루어진 64괘는 어떤 종류의 사회 정치적 상황을 상징하며 그러한 상황에 처한 개인들에게 각각의 조건에 합당한 의리(義理)를 실천할 수 있는 방향을 제시해 줄 수 있기 때문이다. 『주역』을 정치철학에 관한 문헌으로 연구한 논문들은 다수 있다. 본 논문은 정이천이 『주역』을 해석할 때에도 이러한 이해 지평이 개입되었다고 전제하고 『주역』을 정치적 맥락에서 해석하려 한다. 특히 정치적 행동을 위한 메뉴얼로 이해하기 위해서다. 정치적 성격으로서의 『주역』을 사대부들에게 정치적 행위의 메뉴얼을 제공하려는 의도를 가진 문헌으로 해석하려는 시론적 성격의 논문이다.
Abstract
There is no classic in human history that has as many annotations as I Ching. When reading the text of the scripture, the horizon of understanding and problem consciousness of the person who reads it are involved. The interests of the Chinese intellectuals are closely related to politics. In particular, Cheng-YiChuan(程伊川)'s interpretation of I Ching is not irrelevant to the requests of the times. Cheng-YiChuan(程伊川) read I Ching by analyzing the crisis and problems of the North Song society and presenting the right way to act as an intellectual who lives in the social and political areas. I Ching has a very good form to present such content. The 64th Hexagrams, made up of Yinyang(陰陽)'s complications, symbolizes some kind of socio-political situation. This is because it can provide directions for individuals in such situations to practice appropriateness(義理) to their respective condition. There are many papers that have studied I Ching as a literature on political philosophy. This paper assumes that this horizon of understanding was involved even when Cheng-YiChuan(程伊川) interprets I Ching, and tries to interpret I Ching in a political context. In particular, it to understand it as a manual for political action. It is intended to interpret I Ching as a political character as a literature with the intention of providing a manual of political action to intellectuals.
