Abstract

Moves to weaponize economic power through measures such as economic sanctions are intensifying around the world. Japanese companies are concentrating on securing independent and influential technological competitiveness by responding to economic security jointly with the public and private sectors. This will help them avoid the crisis caused by pressure from governments such as the United States and China. In this paper, the response strategies of Japanese companies were analyzed by focusing on the following: first, the strengthening of risk response-ability, second, strengthening of supply chain stability, and third, protecting and strengthening technology to ensure the strategic indispensability of the company's technology. An increasing number of Japanese companies are setting up economic security departments to respond quickly to changing economic and security risks. They are also focusing on diversifying procurement sources, strengthening localization strategies for local production, and strengthening the Japanese production system for core materials and parts. To secure technological indispensability, the Japanese government and companies are working together to focus on the development of strong technologies while strengthening the technological security systems. In the case of Korea, it will be important to establish economic security guidelines and strengthen various risk monitoring systems through public-private cooperation, as well as secure the indispensability of Korean companies and technologies. It is important to strengthen the autonomy of the supply chain of semiconductors, which have a high global market share, and to have the power to defend the country and its companies against economic and security attacks.
