초록
This study compares three public translation guidelines from Korea and China across eight dimensions, including issuing authority, scope, language coverage, and structural features. It highlights operational challenges and suggests improvements. For example, China’s national standard should include Korean as a target language, and Hangzhou’s local guideline could enhance consistency by referencing Korea’s Romanization of Foreign Words. Conversely, Korea’s guidelines need more detailed principles for translating cultural heritage names and clearer instructions for signage translations. A focused analysis on the translation of Chinese geographical names into Korean is also provided. By comparing Hangzhou’s guideline with Korea’s standard, the study offers harmonized translation equivalents, particularly for natural place name suffixes. This research demonstrates the value of cross-national comparison in enhancing translation standards and offers practical suggestions for refining public translation practices.
