Using critical deconstruction as a method of analysis, this paper examines cultural-political hegemony that is hidden behind the obsession of documenting a dance using Labanotation. It continues to investigate what aspects of dance can and cannot be transmitted into a Labanotation score. I will conclude this paper by asking beneficial and risky aspects when using Labanotation as a system of writing/historicizing a dance. In doing so, this study aims to ponder the close relationship between writing, history and politics and how it resonates in the field of dance with the example of Labanotation.
