Contributing to the establishment of the dance culture in Korea, Kang Yi-moon (1923-1992) was an active dance critic who started his carrier in Busan, Korea. Throughout his life, he carried out various theoretical and practical activities that became a foundation stone for Korea’s modern and contemporary dances. This study introduces the legacies of Kang who led the dance world in Korea from the Korean War, and examines the contextual meaning of his key study, the National Dance Theory. It also presents Kang’s legacies that were somewhat underestimated throughout Korean history, and showcases the present value of ethnic group dances.
Abstract
