Abstract
This study explores the interaction effects of event-self congruence, perceived sponsor motive, and event participation on attitude toward sponsor. A scenario based 2(event-self congruence: high/low)⨯2(perceived sponsor motive: selfish/altruistic)⨯2(event participation: yes/no) between-subjects factorial design experiments are conducted for the test of hypotheses. According to the results of ANCOVA, consumers' attitude towards sponsor increases more when they perceive event-self congruence as high than when they perceive it as low. The results also demonstrate that there are interactive effects of event-sponsor congruence, perceived sponsor motive, and event participation. The difference of attitude toward sponsor by event-sponsor congruence increases when consumers' perceived sponsor motive is selfish while it decreases consumers' perceived sponsor motive is altruistic. It also decreases when consumers participate in the event. The difference is biggest when consumers perceive sponsor motive as selfish and at the same time they don't participate in the event.
