Abstract

This research was motivated by a curiosity to see the morality in consumer-corporate relations with a viewpoint of emotions. We have already much knowledges of the roles of positive emotions at brand level in consumption settings. However, we have a little researches on negative emotions in consumer behavior, especially on negative and moral emotions at corporate level. Based on the social intuitionism model, as a new research tradition of moral psychology, this study identified the mechanism of the emotional reaction to a corporate's ethical behavior. This research found that contempt is not significantly related but anger is significantly related with other variables such as moral judgment, corporate image and purchase intention. However, there is not a direct relationship between anger and consequences. The effect of anger, as a moral emotion, on consumer perception and behavioral intent is mediated by the moral judgement such that the influence of affective responses on Ab(attitude toward the brand) is mediated by Aad (attitude toward the advertisement). This finding gives us some significant insights for consumer anger or negative emotion which incurs corporate and customers too much costs.
