원격교육의 매체선정 고려요소: 교수자, 매체개발자, 기술전문가의 관점을 중심으로

매체환경의 변화로 원격교육의 매체선정 고려요소가 변하고 있다는 주장이 제기되고 있으나 이는 가이드라인 차원의 변화일 뿐 실제 원격교육 참여자의 매체선정 고려요소를 밝히는 경험과학적 연구는 수행된 바 없다. 이에 본 연구는 원격교육 매체선정의 실제를 개선하기 위해 원격교육 현장의 매체선정 고려요소를 구체적으로 밝히는 것이 선행되어야 한다고 보고, 원격교육 매체선정 관계자인 교수자, 매체개발자, 기술전문가를 대상으로 이들의 매체선정 고려요소에 대한 인식을 현재와 미래로 나누어 알아보았다. 이를 위해 원격교육에 참여하는 교수자 6인, 매체개발자 3인, 기술전문가 3인을 인터뷰하고 이를 분석하였다. 그 결과 첫째, 현재 고려하고 있는 매체선정의 고려요소는 학습목표 및 내용의 성격, 학습내용의 제시방식, 학습활동 유형, 교수자요소, 학습자요소, 대학내부요소, 비용요소, 매체특성요소, 기술요소, 외부환경요소가 포함된 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 미래의 매체선정 고려요소는 범주 측면에서 현재와 비슷하였으나 범주의 하위요소에는 차이가 있었으며, 특이사항은 새로운 매체에 대한 부담감과 미래의 학습관련 테크놀로지에 대한 긍정적 기대감이 공존한다는 것이었다. 셋째, 미래에는 현재보다 대학의 내부요소가 매체선정의 주요 요소로 고려될 것이며, 현재의 ‘콘텐츠 개발’보다는 학습자 입장의 ‘전달통로’, ‘학습활동’, ‘평가 및 피드백’과 같은 요소가 매체선정의 중요한 고려요소가 될 것으로 인식하고 있었다. 이러한 결과는 앞으로의 매체선정이 학습의 질과 풍부한 학습경험을 제공하는 데 초점을 맞출 수 있도록 대학 내부의 의사결정 시스템과 코스개발 및 운영 지원 시스템을 정비할 필요가 있음을 의미한다.
Abstract
As high-tech devices become more common, which have mobility and powerful processing capabilities, there are some voices that the media selection factors must be changed when developing distance courses. But such research is lacking yet. The purpose of this study is to identify what factors are considered now and should be considered in the near future, when selecting the media for distance education courses by professors, media developers, and related technology experts. For this purpose, six professors, three media developers, and three technology experts were interviewed. As results, first, the current factors to be considered when selecting media were the learning objectives and content, sensory/delivery mode of learning content, learning activity, instructor factors, learner factors, organization factors, cost factors, media characteristics, technology factors, environment factors, respectively. Second, the future factors to be considered were similar to current ones in category but were somehow different in subcategory. Interestingly, there were two distinctive features, deliberations and positive expectations about new media were showed up at the same time. Third, they believed that it could be possible selecting media rationally based on the quality of learning in the future, and that the factors could be more considered such as organizational factors, delivery mode/media, learning activity factors, and assessment/feedback, also. It showed that, for more effective and efficient distance teaching and learning, the distance education providers should focus on the quality of learning and richness of learning experience when selecting and using technology.
