고등학생이 지각한 부모의 양육태도와 스마트폰 중독 간 관계에서 자기통제력의 매개효과

초록

이 연구는 고등학생이 지각한 부모의 양육태도, 자기통제력, 스마트폰 중독 간 관계를 확인하고, 부모의 양육태도와 스마트폰 중독 관계에서 자기통제력의 매개효과를 검증하는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 이를 위하여 고등학생 283명에게 부모의 양육태도, 스마트폰 중독, 자기통제력에 대한 설문을 실시하였다. 부모의 양육태도 가운데 감독, 애정, 합리적 설명 유형은 긍정적인 양육태도로, 반면 비일관성, 과잉기대, 과잉간섭 유형은 부정적인 양육태도로 구분하였다. 연구결과, 첫째 부모의 양육태도, 스마트폰 중독, 자기통제력 간에는 유의미한 상관관계가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 먼저 긍정적인 부모의 양육태도는 스마트폰 중독과 부적 관계를, 자기통제력과 정적 관계를 보였다. 이와 반대로 부정적인 부모의 양육태도는 스마트폰 중독과 정적 관계를, 자기통제력과 부적 관계를 나타냈다. 둘째, 자기통제력이 부모의 양육태도와 스마트폰 중독 관계를 완전 매개하는 것으로 나타났다. 즉, 부모의 양육태도가 자녀의 스마트폰 중독에 직접 영향을 주기 보다는 부모의 양육태도가 자녀의 자기통제력에 영향을 미치고 다시 자기통제력이 스마트폰 중독에 영향을 준다는 것이다. 이러한 결과는 청소년의 스마트폰 중독을 예방하기 위해서는 부모교육을 통한 개입 보다는 청소년의 자기통제력을 높일 수 있는 기회를 제공하는 것이 효과적일 수 있음을 시사한다. 이를 바탕으로 교육적 개입 방안과 후속 연구를 위한 방향을 제시하였다.

Abstract

Adolescents spend hours every day using their smartphones. Yet problematic smartphone use is getting an increasing amount of attention due to the popularity of mobile phone in recent years. The purpose of this study is to examine the mediating effects of self-control in the relationship between perceived parenting attitude and smartphone addiction. 283 highschool students, who uses smartphones, have completed questionnaires, assessing their perception of parents attitude, self-control, and smartphone addiction. Parenting attitude could be defined as the general attitude of parents when they were raising a child. Monitoring, affection and reasoning parenting are classified as a positive attitude and, on the contrary, inconsistency, overexpectation and intrusiveness parenting are classified as a negative attitude. Results are as follows: First, the positive parenting attitude had a negative influence on smartphone addictions but positive effects on self-control. The correlation was reversed on negative parenting attitude. Second, self-control was found to mediate the relationship completely between parenting attitudes and smartphone addiction. That is, rather than parenting attitude having a direct effect on smartphone addiction, the self-control resulting from the parenting attitude had an affect on smartphone addiction. The result provides evidence on close association between parenting attitude and problematic smartphone use, indicating the mediation role of self-control. Based on the results, further implications are provided to reduce adolescents’ smartphone addiction. Possible directions for future research were also suggested.
