Abstract
This study analyzes the barriers perceived by teachers in the implementation of AI Digital Textbook (AIDT) and explores possible improvements. Developed as new instructional media in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, AIDT provides personalized learning paths and feedback tailored to students’ levels and characteristics. However, resistance has emerged in schools due to limited social consensus and technical and institutional constraints. To address this issue, focus group interviews (FGI) were conducted with eight elementary and secondary school teachers who had direct experience with AIDTs. Data were analyzed inductively using the categories of technology integration barriers as an analytic framework. The findings revealed major obstacles, including unstable systems and infrastructure, limited AI functions and content, reduced instructional autonomy and ineffective training, and top-down policy implementation with little teacher input. Suggested measures include simplified access and support systems, subject-specific enhancement of AI functions and content, practice-based training, and bottom-up policy making that incorporates teachers’ perspectives. These results indicate that AIDT should be understood not merely as technical products but as central media for restructuring interactions among teachers, students, and content, requiring both policy and educational support that respects teachers’ professionalism and instructional autonomy while being rooted in their experiences and needs.
