초록

"Embrace of the Serpent" (2015) by Ciro Guerra represents the cultural and epistemological clash between two worlds, the West and the Amazon. The film deals with two journeys of the Westerners, one by Theodor and the other by Evan, with the indigenous shaman Karamakate who accompanies them on the journey in search of the sacred plant Yakruna. Obviously, throughout the journey the epistemological difference of both worlds regarding nature is observed. And the film ends with the scene in which Karamakate disappears, giving his knowledge to Evan. So, the journey would be a search not only for the sacred plant but for a way of integrating both worlds. However, this article tries to reveal that the director resurfaces the specter of Amerigo Vespucci represented in Stradanus's "America" and that, despite his efforts to show the interculturalist vision, he fails to represent the Amazonian culture.
