최근 몇 년간, 스페인 문단에서는 여성 노벨라 네그라 작가들의 등장과 더불어 이 장르는 고전적 모델에서 나타나는 가부장적 가치와 남성 중심주의를 탐구하고 비판하며 전복하는 공간으로 기능해왔으며, 이를 통해 장르 자체에 대한 새로운 형태의 자기 성찰을 제시하는 페미니즘적 경향을 보인다. 특히 21세기 여성작가 중 돌로레스 레돈도는 노벨라 네그라의 ‘질적 도약’을 이루었다고 평가받는다. 레돈도는 그녀의 작품 『보이지 않는 수호자』에서 여성에 대한 폭력, 성차별, 사회적 억압 등 여성들이 직면하는 다양한 문제를 다루며, 이를 해결하려는 여성 캐릭터들의 힘을 강조한다. 이러한 측면은 페미니즘적 요소가 드러나는 부분으로, 여성들이 적극적으로 사회적 문제에 맞서 싸워야 한다는 메시지를 전달한다. 또한 레돈도는 이 작품에서 전통적인 추리소설의 형식에 초자연적 요소와 바스크 신화를 결합하여 독창적인 서사를 구축하며 문학 장르의 경계를 확장 시켰다. 이렇게 『보이지 않는 수호자』는 등장인물과 살인사건, 그리고 사건을 파헤치는 조사과정을 보여주는 추리소설 장르에 자연과 긴밀히 연결된 바스크 신화를 곁들여서, 효과적이고 자연스럽게 다양한 페미니즘의 양상을 잘 보여주고 있는 작품이라고 할 수 있다.
Abstract
In recent years, the Spanish literary scene has witnessed the rise of female authors in the noir genre (novela negra), transforming it into a space that explores, critiques, and subverts the patriarchal values and male-centered perspectives inherent in its classic models. This shift has introduced a feminist tendency, offering new forms of self-reflection within the genre itself. Among 21st-century female authors, Dolores Redondo is particularly celebrated for achieving a ‘qualitative leap’ in novela negra. In her work The Invisible Guardian, Redondo addresses various issues faced by women, such as gender-based violence, sexism, and social oppression, while emphasizing the strength of female characters striving to overcome these challenges. These elements highlight the feminist aspects of the narrative, delivering a powerful message that women must actively confront societal problems. Furthermore, Redondo expands the boundaries of the literary genre by blending supernatural elements and Basque mythology with the traditional structure of detective novels, crafting a truly original narrative. Thus, The Invisible Guardian effectively and seamlessly showcases various dimensions of feminism by intertwining Basque mythology, deeply connected to nature, with the detective novel genre, which encompasses vivid characters, intriguing murder cases, and the investigative process.
