연역 논증과 귀납 논증의 구분 기준

본 논문의 목적은 우리의 이전 논문 “‘부당한 연역 논증’은 형용모순인가?”에 대한 김진형과 최훈의 반론에 대응하면서 연역 논증과 귀납 논증의 구분 기준으로 실현 기준보다는 의도 기준이 적절하다는 것을 다시 한번 보이는 것이다. 그들의 반론은 상당 부분 오해에서 비롯되었을 뿐만 아니라 논리적 오류를 범하는 측면도 있다. 특히, 최훈의 반론은 논증 재구성과 논증 분류가 서로 독립적이라는 잘못된 생각을 전제하고 있고, 김진형의 반론은 핵심적 논점에서 벗어나 있다. 우리의 물음에 대해 그들이 제안한 방법도 제대로 된 해법이 될 수 없다. 그들이 제안한 해법은 모두 연역 논증과 귀납 논증의 구분 기준이 충족시켜야 할 망라적 배타성 조건을 충족시키지 못하기 때문이고, 결국 “부당한 연역 논증은 귀납 논증일 수 있는가?”라는 물음에 적절하게 답하는 데 실패하기 때문이다. 마지막으로 논증의 분류와 평가가 어떤 단계를 거쳐 진행되어야 하는지 제시하면서 의도 기준에 따른 논증 분류가 적절하다는 우리의 입장을 다시 한번 확인할 것이다.
Abstract
This paper aims to defend once again that deductive and inductive arguments should be distinguished by the intention criterion rather than the realization criterion. This claim of ours was presented in our former paper “Is ‘invalid deductive argument’ an Oxymoron?”(2019) and criticized by Jin Hyeong Kim(2019) and Hoon Choi(2020). We argue that their criticisms are mostly based on misunderstandings and their arguments make logical fallacies. Choi’s criticism is based on a false claim that argument reconstruction and argument classification are independent, and Kim’s criticism is off the main argument of ours. Their response to the problem we raised cannot be a solution to the problem either. The following two reasons can be given. One is that their solutions do not satisfy the criterion that the distinction should, if possible, be both exclusive and exhaustive. The other is that their solutions fail to provide a proper answer to the question “Can an invalid deductive argument be an inductive argument?” Lastly, we present how argument classification and argument evaluation proceed, and this presentation will show that the intention criterion
