Abstract
This study investigates the approach of Human Enhancement, recently suggested from the camps of transhumanists and posthumanists.from a critical and pedagogical perspective. This approach is an modern attempt to transform the current human being into the next better stage of humanity, the so called posthuman which can be made with the help of the modern and future high technologies of hybridzing of human and machine, biotechnology and molecular nanotechnology, genetic engineering and manipulation. Focusing on Nick Bostrom, one of the leading voices in the camp of transhumanists and posthumanists, we examine the anthropological-pedagogical basis and logic, revealing the similarities and differences between the traditional, in particular the pedagogy of enlightenment, and human enhancement, which insisted to succeed the enlightenment tradition in education. Through this review, we came to the conclusion that the approach of human enhancement is, despite its similarities with education in both of utopian idealism and dichotomy in anthropological understanding, neither a modern successor of the enlightenment spirit of humanism nor has something to do with enlightenment education. In addition, this study recommend that the contemporary education should stand apart from the excessive orientation toward the utopianism and blind optimistic instrumentalism and that it needs to defend the traditional position and proper function of humanism and education.
