The purpose of this research is to explore the ways toward the effective development of economic citizenship, which is the main goal of economic education in the knowledge-based society. As a result of the research, some recommendations for the school economic education are as follows:ㆍ Economic education should be organized as a compulsory, essential subject. ㆍ The theoretical foundations for the scope and sequence of the contents of economic education should be established toward each school and grade levels. ㆍ Knowledges, skills, value-attitudes, and participation, as the instructional objectives, should be included equally. ㆍ The contents related to the economic citizenship should be constructed in the way that they can emphasize on the case closely connnected with students' experiences.
