하루가 다르게 급변하는 있는 점단 디지털 문화 시대에서 학생들에게 아날로그 방식의 신문을 가르치는 교육은 효율성 떨어져 보일 수 있다. 그러나 무분별한 정보 홍수속에서 그나마 사회현상과 사회문제를 바르게 볼 수 있는 매체 가운데 하나가 신문이다. 최근 학교 교육 현장에서는 신문을 교재로 활용하는 사례가 늘고 있다. 현행 교육과정에서 NIE(Newspaper In Education)는 예전 교육과정에 비해 상당히 많이 다루고 있다. 초등학교 교과서의 경우 NIE 활동을 다룬 분량이 교과목에 따라 짧게는 1쪽 크게는 수 십 쪽에 달한다. 활동 횟수나 교과도 광범위하다. 중ㆍ고교의 경우는 교과서보다 수행평가나 각종 시험에 NIE를 많이 도입하고 있는 실정이다. 대입 수학능력시험과 논술ㆍ구술시험에서 신문의 내용이나 신문의 형식을 차용하는 사례는 갈수록 늘고 있다. 하지만 현장에서 NIE가 확대ㆍ적용되려면 해결해야 할 과제가 많다. 이를 테면 신문 활용 교육의 기본 시스템인 사회과 교육관련 현직 교원 연수 및 예비 교사 교육, 사회과 교육 관련 NIE 교육과정의 체계화, 다양한 교수ㆍ학습 방법의 개발, 교육용 신문자료의 축적(스크랩) 등이 바로 그 것이다. 이상의 전제와 문제의식을 염두에 두고 이 글은 우선 NIE 교육방법의 전반적인 맥락을 살펴본 뒤, 교육용 신문자료를 어떻게 탐색하고 선택, 정리, 활용할 것인가에 대한 스크랩 기술을 사회과 영역 중 경제영역을 예로 들어 이해하고 실천하는 토대를 마련하는 것을 목표로 한다.
Abstract
In the up-to-date digital culture age when everything changes day by day, giving an education to students in newspaper in analogue mode may seems to be low in its efficiency. But a newspaper is one of media which can appropriately view social phenomena and problems among lots of flood of imprudent information. There is growing cases utilizing a newspaper in a recent education site. NIE(Newspaper In Education) is much more dealt with in current educational sites than in previous educational courses. In case of textbooks of an elementary school, the amount in which NIE activities are addressed ranges from I page to scores of pages, according to school subjects. The activity frequency or courses of study are diverse also. In case of a middle senior high school, it is true that NIE is being more introduced to performance evaluation or various tests than to a textbook. There are increasing cases borrowing the contents or types of a newspaper in the national academic aptitude test and essay-type and oral examination. But, for NIE to be expanded and applied, there are plenty of tasks to be solved. For example, they include Society Dept. education-related incumbent teachers's study and training and education of candidate teachers, systematization of Society Dept. education-related NIE educational course, development of diverse teaching, learning methods, and accumulation(scrap) of educational newspaper materials, which are the basic system of newspaper-using education. Having regard to above premises and problem consciousness, this writing aims to study general background of NIE educational methods, understand scrap technique on how to search, summarize and utilize educational newspaper materials by giving economy sphere among Society sphere as an example, and lay a foundation for practice.
