Abstract
The purpose of this case study is to examine the benefits of the parenting support program for mothers with intellectual disabilities (ID) of youth with disabilities on their parenting behaviors. Three mothers with ID who raised youth with disabilities were provided with an individualized parenting support program focused on their children’s transition to adulthood for 10 sessions. The analyses of pre and post test results and the researcher’s field note showed that expressing affection toward children, discipline, and transition-related parenting behaviors of three mothers improved after the program. The facilitating factors were discussed including individualization, emotional supports, transition-related considerations, and advantages of home-based intervention. Finally, suggestions for support were made to reduce the parenting difficulties experienced by the mothers with ID.
