다문화가정 청소년의 이중문화 수용성 발달양상에 따른 성취동기의 종단적 변화 탐색

초록

본 연구의 목적은 다문화가정 청소년의 이중문화 수용성을 종단적 발달양상에 따라 잠재계층으로 분류하여 그특성과 예측요인을 탐색하고, 이중문화 수용성 잠재계층에 따른 성취동기 변화추이를 종단적으로 살펴보는데 있다. 이를 위해 다문화청소년패널연구(MAPS)에서 다문화가정 청소년 1,635명과 그 어머니를 대상으로 2011년 4학년 시점(1 차)부터 2016년 중학교 3학년 시점(6차)까지 6년간 수집한 자료를 성장혼합모형, 다항로지스틱 회귀분석, 다집단성장모형 등을 활용하여 분석하였다. 주요 연구 결과는 첫째, 이중문화 수용성의 6년간 변화양상에 따른 잠재계층은초기값과 선형성장률을 토대로 ‘저수준-감소’, ‘중간수준-유지’, ‘고수준-증가’ 등 세 개의 이질적인 유형으로 구분되었다. 둘째, 잠재계층의 예측요인은 시점에 따라 다소 차이는 있었으나 성별, 자아존중감, 문화적응스트레스로 확인되었으며, 특히 자아존중감은 모든 시점에서 일관되게 잠재계층을 예측하는 것으로 나타났다. 또한, 학교생활적응의 세 요인(교우관계, 학습활동, 교사관계)은 모두 이중문화 수용성 발달을 예측하는 중요한 변인이었다. 한편, 다문화가정 청소년의이중문화 수용성은 학부모 요인보다 개인특성이나 학교환경의 영향을 더 많이 받는 것으로 확인되었다. 셋째, 잠재계층별로 6년간 성취동기의 변화를 추적한 결과 ‘고수준-증가’ 유형에서 다문화가정 청소년의 성취동기 초기값과 성장률이가장 높게 나타났다. 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 다문화가정 청소년의 이중문화 수용성과 성취동기 증진을 위한 시사점을논의하였다.

Abstract

This study aimed to classify the patterns in the longitudinal development of multiculatural adolescents’ bicultural acceptance, to examine their characteristics and predictors, and to explore the longitudinal changes in achievement motivation by those latent classes. We analyzed the data across six years (4th to 9th grade) from 1,635 multicultural adolescents and their mothers in the Multicultural Adolescents Panel Study(MAPS) using growth mixture model, multinomial logistic regression, and multi-group growth model. Main results are as follows. First, three latent classes were identified including ‘low-level/decrease’, ‘middle-level/maintain’, and ‘high-level/ increase’ based on their initial statuses and linear growth rates. Second, the main predictors of those latent classes were gender, self-esteem, and acculturative stress. Among them, self-esteem predicted the latent classes of bicultural acceptance at all time points. School adaptation was another important predictor of those latent classes. Meanwhile, multicultural adolescents’ bicultural acceptance was affected by their own personal characteristics and school contexts rather than by their mother’s characteristics. Third, multicultural adolescents in the ‘high-level/increase’ class showed the highest initial status and growth rate of achievement motivation. The study discussed the implications for improving multicultural adolescents’ bicultural acceptance and achievement motivation.
