Abstract
Lee, S.A, Woo, JH., Paik, I.Y. Effects of cross application of endurance and resistance exercise on tissue damage and antioxidant system in soccer players and bodybuilders. Exercise Science, 13(4): 423-434, 2004. The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of endurance and resistance exercise on the difference of TAS, antioxidant enzyme(SOD, GPX) activation, MDA and CK in college soccer players(ST; n=10) and Korean national team bodybuilders(WT; n=10). The 70% VO2 max test and 70% RM test ran 90 minutes each. Their blood was drawn while being at rest, after 45-min workout, after 90-min workout and 30 minutes after taking a recovery. The TAS that represents antioxidant level, as a result of comparing the two, the WT group was higher in TAS. The level of MDA and activated SOD, GPX went up greatly when the WT group got resistance exercise and the ST group got endurance exercise. As a result of CK comparing the two, the WT group that originally used muscle more was remarkably higher in CK, compared to the ST group. In this study, when subjects exercise their training type, they used more muscles, and consumed a larger amount of oxygen and produced more free radical. So they were more exposed to oxidative damage like lipid peroxidation, and this seems why their antioxidant defence improved. However, there appeared no relation between MDA, a measure of lipid peroxidation, and CK, an indicator of muscle damage.
