Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of exercise intensity on PPARg, FOXO-1, MyoD, myostatin, IGF-1 and leptin mRNA pattern in type 2 diabetic mice. Twenty four mice were assigned to control group (CON, n=8), low-intensity exercise group (LIE, n=8), and high-intensity exercise group (HIE, n=8). Mice in LIE and HIE were subjected to treadmill exercise 30 mins/day, 5 days/week, during 8 weeks (LIE, at the speed of 10 m/min for 1-4 weeks and 12 m/min for 5-8 weeks; HIE, 15 m/min for 1-4 weeks and 16 m/min). PPARg, FOXO-1, MyoD, myostatin, IGF-1 and leptin mRNA in skeletal muscle were analyzed using real-time PCR. PPARg mRNA in LIE was significantly less than CON and HIE. FOXO-1 mRNA in HIE were significantly less than CON. MyoD mRNA in HIE were significantly greater than CON and LIE. Myostatin mRNA in HIE were significantly less than CON. IGF-1 mRNA in LIE was significantly less than CON and HIE. These results indicate that high- or low-intensity exercise effectively works to the inhibition of obesity-related genes and muscle fibers regeneration.
