PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to compare and examine the effects of obesity on functional fitness and anti-aging hormone in normal weight and overweight elderly women. METHODS: Twenty subjects participated in this study who divided into two groups as metabolically obese, normal weight elderly women group(MONWG) 10, overweight obese elderly women group(OWOG) 10 in B metropolitan city. The variables of functional fitness and anti-aging hormone were measured in all the subjectse. All data was analyzed by independent t-test by using SPSS 18.0. RESULTS: In the case of functional fitness, the OWOG was a higer than MONWG in the 2 kg dumbbell curl, and MONWG was a faster than OWOG in the 2.44 m up-and go. But there were no significant difference in the chair stand, sit and reach, back scratch, and 2-minute walk. In the case of anti-aging hormone, the OWOG was a higher than MONWG in the GH, testosterone, DHEA-S. CONCLUSIONS: It is concluded that the body composition of elderly women is more important than the body weight. The more muscle mass in elderly women in upper extremity muscle strength and anti-aging hormone showed more positive, the effect of body weight was greater in the agility.
