Abstract
This study aimed to identify latent profiles of job satisfaction of low-experienced middle school teachers and to verify predictors that influence the classification of these latent profiles. For this purpose, we utilize middle school data from the 2021 Gyeonggi School Education Survey conducted by the Gyeonggi Education Research Institute. Data from 1, 084 teachers with less than 5 years of teaching experience were extracted to analyze the latent profile classification of job satisfaction and the factors affecting classification. As a result of the analysis, the final three latent profiles were found to be appropriate. Specifically, the high job satisfaction group (27.2%) with high job satisfaction in all areas, the medium job satisfaction group (47.2%) with medium job satisfaction in all areas, and the low job satisfaction group (25.6%) with low job satisfaction in all areas. The individual-level variables that influenced the classification of these latent profiles were gender, training in tteaching and learning and evaluation, teacher efficacy, and experience with human rights violations. The school-level variables were regional size, democratic school culture, collaborative problem-solving, and participatory decision-making. This study is significant in that it empirically confirmed the existence of heterogeneous latent profiles of job satisfaction among low-career middle school teachers, and examined the individual-level and school-level variables that influence the classification of these groups. Based on these results, we discuss ways to positively increase job satisfaction of early-career middle school teachers and recommend for further research.
