Abstract
Purpose: The present study explored the latent profiles of teachers’ decisional capital and the influential factors at the teacher and school level. Additionally, we compared the means of teacher morale and enthusiasm and teaching satisfaction depending on each latent profile. Design/methodology/data/approach: The multilevel latent profile analysis(MLPA) was used to identify teacher profiles of decisional capital and the teacher and school-level determinants on the basis of the fifth release of the Gyeonggi Education Panel Study(GEPS) data(N=1,570). Findings/Results: First, teachers' decisional capital profiles were identified into five distinctive profiles: ‘mid confidence-low autonomy group’, ‘low confidence-mid autonomy group’, ‘mid confidence-high autonomy group’, ‘high confidence-mid autonomy group’, and ‘high confidence-high autonomy group’. Second, the latent group membership was found to be statistically influenced by both teacher-level factors(i.e., teaching experience, school principal’s transformation leadership, democratic school climate, student-centered and teacher-centered classroom activities) and school level factors(i.e., urban area, private school, and hours of operation for learning communities within school). Third, significant differences were found between the decisional capital profiles in teacher morale and enthusiasm and teaching satisfaction. Specifically, teachers in the ‘high confidence-high autonomy group’ tended to have the highest level of teacher morale and enthusiasm and teaching satisfaction. Value: Based on these findings, we discussed the implications for teacher education to improve teachers’ decisional capital.
