Abstract
This study was to examined the differences in proactivity competencies between firstand fourth-year students based on their participation in an extracurricular program. We analyzed the responses of 233 first- and fourth-year students who repeatedly participated in the Core Competency Diagnostic Survey at K University in Seoul in 2017. First, independent t-tests conducted for Grades 1 to 4 showed that, the mean of proactivity by program participation level was statistically significantly higher among fourth graders with higher levels of extracurricular participation. Second, a paired-samples t-test for Grades 1 to 4 showed that fourth graders were more likely to take the initiative than first graders, and this difference in means was statistically significant. Furthermore, proactivity in self-development activities, a sub-variable of proactivity, was statistically significantly higher in the first and fourth years only in the group with higher levels of participation in extracurricular programs. This study suggests that participation in various comparative studies programs can positively affect college students' proactivity competencies.
