Abstract
Most Korean people are not free from the confinement of blood ties, regional ties, and school ties in the everyday life. This is still moot but, I think, firstly originated in the Confucian familism. Nowadays when the world is becoming one-day life zone, however, our mature moral consciousness caring all people equally is absolutely required. That is to say, we all needed to have a sense of moral refinement and balance. This essay simplifies the tradition of Eastern and Western ethical culture into the two concepts of ‘partiality’ and ‘impartiality’, and then reinterprets it in the light of Korean ethical sentiment. According to this, regardless of their region and history human beings are basically based on the ‘partial interest’ in their intimates and further orient to the ‘impartial love’ about man in general. But our Koreans could hardly have an opportunity to understand and apply the universal love like Moze's ‘loving each other(兼相愛)’ or western ‘impartiality’ properly because of the Confucian moral binding, for example, the logic of ‘first my family and second the other people(親親之殺)’. Such a traditional cultural background might make our Korean People have an ‘impartial’ attitude toward the unfamiliar face. My opinion is of course not a conclusion through some rigid analysis and argument. I just like to emphasize the importance of ethical ‘reality’, but not the ethical principle. The study of ethical ‘reality’ helps for us to reflect on our moral self-portrait, I think. The ethic of sane global citizen should be start with this moral common sense.
