시민적 친애는 시민들의 경쟁과 갈등을 치유할 수 있는 매우 매력적인 방안이다. 하지만 기본적으로 시민이 서로 친구가 될 수 있는지는 의문이다. 또한 그게 가능하다고 하더라도 시민이 서로 친구가 된다는 것이 무엇을 의미하는지도 분명하지 않다. 본 논문은 이에 대한 아리스토텔레스의 견해를 검토한다. 아리스토텔레스는 입법자가 정의보다 친애를 위해 더 노력해야한다고 말한다. 하지만 그가 말하는 친애의 의미와 종류 그리고 시민의 의미와 종류를 더 자세히 알아보면 입법자가 더 노력해야 하는 시민적 친애가 어떤 것인가에 대해서 여러 가지 의문이 제기된다. 본 논문에서는 그러한 의문을 더욱 분명하게 제시하고 심화시켜서 아리스토텔레스가 말하는 시민적 친애가 어떤 것인지를 파악하기 위한 단초를 마련하고자 한다.
Abstract
The unity or solidarity of citizens has been a major task by legislater and politician. Civic friendship can be preferred as a very attractive means of a cure of conflict and competition between citizens, above all, comtemporary liberal citizens. However, how can be citizens friends and what means civic friendship, etc., are not clear. This paper, by tracing, investigating and examining of Aristotle's civic friendship, tries to find the answer about them. Aristotle also emphasizes the importance of civic friendship, but he adds the proper degree to it. This paper regards his addition as a evidence of that he thinks that there should be the proper degree of civic friendship and tries to find what it is. It would be reasonable to suppose that his civic friendship would aim the mean or middle of it likewise virtues in his ethics and desirable regime in his political philosophy.
