인간배아줄기세포연구에 대한 윤리적 고찰

본 논문에서는 인간배아줄기세포연구의 윤리적 문제에 대해 고찰하였다. 이를 위해 우선 배아줄기세포가 무엇이며, 왜 연구를 하려고 하는지에 대한 과학적 설명을 살펴 본 후, 이 연구가 갖는 윤리적 문제점에 대해 고찰하고, 이 연구의 대안에 대해 살펴보았다. 인간배아줄기세포연구의 윤리적 문제점으로는 이 연구 과정에서 인간의 초기 생명을 해친다는 점, 그리고 체세포복제배아의 경우는 인간 복제로 이어질 개연성이 크다는 점, 그리고 이 연구 과정에서 여성의 몸에 대한 수단화가 이루어진다는 점을 지적하였다. 그리고 이 연구의 대안으로 그 어떤 생명도 해치지 않는 성체줄기세포연구를 제안하였다. 인간배아줄기세포연구는 이제 기술적으로 가능한 상태에 도달하였고, 우리나라는 세계에서 선두를 달리고 있다. 그러나 과연 이 연구를 계속해도 되는가에 대한 진지한 윤리학적 숙고가 요청된다.
Abstract
This essay reviews the ethical problems of the human embryonic stem cell research. Firstly, the definition of embryonic stem cell and the aims of embryonic stem cell research are discussed. Secondly, the ethical problems of the human embryonic stem cell research are discussed. Lastly, the alternative of the human embryonic stem cell research is proposed. The ethical problems of the human embryonic stem cell research are following: 1. The human early life[embryo] is destroyed in the process of this research. 2. This research has many possibilities leading to the human cloning. 3. The instrumentation of women is happened in the process of this research, especially oocyte donation. So, the adult stem cell research is to be the alternative of the human embryonic stem cell research. Therefore, it is to require ethical consideration of continually undertaking this research.
