칸트의 윤리학과 미학의 상호연관성에 관한 인간학적 탐구

본고는 칸트 철학이 인간학의 성격을 지니고 있다는 관점으로부터 출발한다. 무엇보다 앎의 문제, 선악의 문제, 미와 목적론의 문제를 규명하는 칸트의 3대 비판서는 철학적 인간학의 체계를 이루고 있다. 본고에서는 칸트 윤리학의 해명에 있어서 인간학의 위상과 칸트 미학이 기여할 수 있는 바를 밝히고자 한다. 칸트 윤리학을 온전하게 파악하기 위해서는 도덕성의 정초 문제를 다루는 도덕철학과 도덕성의 실현 문제를 다루는 인간학 간의 관계를 이해할 필요가 있다. 그런데 칸트의 인간학적 관점은 무엇보다 그의 미학사상에 풍부하게 제시되어 있다. 칸트 미학의 중요한 내용 요소인 미와 숭고는 개방성과 자유라는 인간학적인 전망을 함의하고 있다. 미와 숭고는 경험세계에서 도덕성의 실현에 중요한 계기를 마련한다는 점에서 도덕성의 상징이자 미적 도덕성이라 할 수 있다. 칸트에게 있어서 미와 도덕성의 공생의 성취는 인간 삶의 가장 중요한 목적이며, 숭고의 체험은 우리의 경향성을 실천 이성에 복종시킴으로써 도덕성의 이념에로의 상승을 가능케 한다. 우리는 미와 숭고의 체험을 통해서 즐거운 마음으로 의무를 행할 수 있다. 이러한 맥락에서 칸트 미학은 경험세계에서 도덕성의 실현 문제를 다루는 도덕적 인간학으로 해석될 수 있다.
Abstract
This article starts from the perspective that Kant’s philosophy can be construed as a system of philosophical anthropology. Above all, we can find out anthropological tone in Kant’s Critical Philosophy(three Critiques) which tackles problems of knowledge, morality, and beauty & teleology. For further elucidation of Kant’s ethics, this article aims to delve into the place of anthropology and the contributive point of Kant’s aesthetics. In order to understand fully Kant’s ethics, we have to grasp the relationship between moral philosophy and anthropology. The former investigates the question of morality’s foundation, the latter morality’s application. Most of all, anthropological approach can be caught vividly in Kant’s aesthetics. The beautiful and the sublime which are important contents in Kant’s aesthetics imply anthropological perspective of openness and freedom. Furthermore, they are symbols of morality, that is, aesthetic morality which paves a way for the realization of morality. For Kant, the achievement of the symbiosis between beauty and morality is the most important goal of our life, and the experience of the sublime which subjects our inclinations to practical reason enables our soul to rise to the ideal of morality. Owing to the feelings of the beautiful and the sublime, we can perform our duty with pleasure. In this context, Kant’s aesthetics can be viewed as moral anthropology which helps to realize what should be.
