초록
애국심은 정치 공동체의 통합을 유지시켜 주는 구성적 도덕중의 하나이다. 그러나 애국심은 양날의 칼과 같다. 오도된 애국심은 국내적으로 불신과 갈등을 조장하고, 국제적으로 증오와 분쟁을 발생시킨다. 그러므로 조국을 올바르게 사랑하는 것이 무엇이며, 그것을 어떻게 교육할 것인가에 대한 고민이 필요하다. 이러한 고민을 해결하기 위한 기초 연구로서 본 연구에서는 ‘건전한’ 애국심의 의미와 속성에 대해 검토하였다. 세계화 및 다문화가 진행되는 현대 사회에서 사랑의 대상인 조국은 생래적 조국이 아니라 정치적 조국이다. 또한 자유민주주의 체제에서의 애국심은 시민적 덕목으로서 비판과 반대를 용인할 수 있어야 한다. 더 나아가 애국심은 감정적 성격이 강하므로 애국심 교육에는 감정 교육에 적합한 방법들이 활용되어야 하며, 애국심이 합리적 감정이 되기 위해서는 공적 검증의 과정을 거쳐야한다.
Abstract
Patriotism is one of the constitutive morals that maintains the unity of the political community. It however is similar to a double-edged sword. Misguided patriotism not only encourages distrust and conflict domestically but also creates hatred and conflict internationally. So, it is imperative to think how to love the country rightfully and how to promote it in schools. As a basic research for solving these problems, this study examined the meaning and properties of 'sound' patriotism. In the modern society where globalization and multiculturalism are advancing, the country which is the object of being loved should be not a country of birth but a country as the political. Also, patriotism, as a civic virtue, should be able to tolerate criticism and dissent in the liberal democratic society. Furthermore, patriotism, as a emotion, should go through the processes of public verification to become a rational one. And the methods for patriotism education in schools should be used those are suitable for emotional education.
