『윤리형이상학』에서 칸트는 의무이론으로서의 윤리학이 덕이론이라고 주장하면서 동시에 의무이자 목적인 덕의무들을 중심으로 덕이론을 제시한다. 본 연구에서는 선의지와 덕 그리고 도덕적 약함의 관계를 검토하면서 칸트의 덕개념이 가지는 성격과 윤리학적 의미를 살펴본다. 이를 위해서 먼저 덕이 칸트의 의무론적 윤리이론에서 도덕성의 기초가 되는 선의지와 어떤 관계에 있는지 고찰한다. 또한 덕이 의지의 도덕적 강함으로 이해되고 덕의 결여인 부덕이 도덕적 약함 즉 소위 의지의 약함에 해당된다고 할 때, 선의지를 가짐에도 부덕이 발생하는 요인이 무엇인지 살펴보면서 덕과 부덕의 차이를 파악한다. 이러한 고찰을 통해 도덕적 약함에는 지성사용의 약함과 함께 마음동요의 강함이 결합되어 있기 때문에 덕을 갖기 위해서는 격정에 휩싸이지 않고 적절한 감정을 갖는 것이 중요하다는 점, 그리고 덕은 행위자의 도덕적 특징일 뿐만 아니라 행위의 도덕적 특징이기도 하다는 점을 확인한다.
Abstract
When Kant argues that ethics as a doctrine of duties is a doctrine of virtue, he presents a doctrine of virtue which is centered on a duty of virtue, i.e. an end that is also a duty. The purpose of this study is to examine the relations among a good will, virtue, and the moral weakness and to discuss the features of Kant’s concept of virtue and its ethical implications. For this I shall consider the relation between virtue and a good will as the sources of morality in Kant’s deontological theory. Then I shall investigate the difference between virtue and a lack of virtue and also the factors which cause a lack of virtue. Given that a lack of virtue counts as moral weakness or a kind of the weakness of the will, such an investigation is very important for understanding the features of virtue. It shows that virtue needs to subdue affects and have proper feelings because a lack of virtue is the strength of emotions connected with the weak use of understanding and that virtue is the characteristics of moral action as well as those of moral agent.
