유교 행복담론의 도덕교육적 함의

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to explore the meanings of moral education in Confucian happiness theory. I first analyzed the discussion of happiness in the moral curriculum. To supplement the problem of the discussion of happiness centered on Western ethics, I looked at the happiness theory in Confucianism. In the late 2000s, when the happiness theory emerged in Korea, ethics education in the revised 2007 curriculum included happiness, but remained limited and superficial. The moral education of the 2015 revised curriculum deals with concepts, contents, and methods of pursuit of happiness in elementary, middle and high schools. However, based on the happiness of Western ethics in terms of content knowledge, we could see the problem of the fact that the discussion of happiness does not seem to exist in Eastern thought. In response, I identified the theory of happiness in Confucianism and sought the application of moral education. As in the case of Obok[五福], the happiness of Confucianism is very wide ranging from very secular to the acceptance of Anbin Nakdo[安貧樂道]. What can be found in moral education is the meaning of happiness through moral performance, restoration of relationship and practice of the Mean[中庸]. These characteristics are meaningful in that it provides insight for future society in the direction of the pursuit of happiness in modern society. Considering low happiness among teenagers in Korean society, we need more attention to education about happiness in moral education.
