Abstract
Bounded ethicality does imply that our ability to make ethical decisions is often limited or bounded due to internal and external pressures. The purpose of this article is to evaluate the bounded ethicality model as a key concept of behavioral ethics. The bounded ethicality model illustrates a systematic and predictable psychological process that induces one to engage in unethical or ethically questionable behavior that does not match one's preferred ethical standards. It helps explain the three puzzles of ethical behavior: when moral cognition exists or does not exist, when ethical behavior is somewhat consistent with past behavior, and when blind spots obscure our ethical failures. The bounded ethicality model does not account for all ethical decision-making, but provide important insights into everyday behavior in which individuals operate in an organizational context and make decisions that affect others.
