Abstract

This research intends to verify the small business and medium-sizedbusiness recognition that the past growth drives the present profitability. Corporations are more likely to focus on profit rather than growth afterthe achievement of economies of the scale. the past growth drives thepresent profitability by the positive impact of the past growth on thepresent profitability. It means that the growth priority strategy is validto enhance the sustainable growth possibility of the small andmedium-sized business. However, as the size of the corporation grows, the validity has gradually weakened. What is interesting about the resultis that the validity of the growth priority strategy shifts from positiveto negative starting with a total asset of 10 billion won. It seems to bedesirable for the small and medium-sized business to be faithful in itsinternal stability rather than to be ruthless in its pursuit of the growthpriority strategy, if its total asset exceeds roughly 10 billion won.
