Abstract

A Study on the Transfer Process in Russian-Korean Machine Translation Kang, Duck-Soo This paper deals with the transfer process in R-K machine translation. There is many morphological, syntactic differences between Russian and Korean sentences. But This differences have systematic consistency. If we can make this systematic consistency to the appropriate rule, we can construct very effective machine translation system. In the machine translation system exist three processing steps. They are analysis, transfer and synthesis. This paper specially aims to investigate the transfer process(second step) and to provide the appropriate linguistic rule. The linguistic differences between Russian and Korean that we want to solve and provide are as follows : (1) Russian case and tense to Korean (2) Russian phrase with the meaning of determination to Korean (3) Russian sentence with “быть” to Korean (4) Poly-semantic problems (with the use of работать) in Russian and Korean The rules, presented in the texts are very small parts of the transfer processing rule in R-K machine translation. If we extend this rule categories, we can improve the quality of R-K machine translation system.
