본 논문은 아리스토텔레스의 즐거움 이론을, 그것과 대비되는 철학적 입장들과의 연관 속에서 조명한다. 본 논문에서는 특히 즐거움에 관한 과정 이론에 대한 그의 대응 방식에 초점을 맞추어, 즐거움을 자연적 성향의 활동으로 규정하는것이 어떻게, 그리고 어느 정도까지 그 이론에 대한 성공적 대응이 되는지를 따져본다. 본 논문은 또한 아리스토텔레스가 과정 이론 비판을 위한 가장 핵심적인 이론적 도구로 끌어들이고 있는 운동과 활동의 구분을 검토하고, 특히 운동-활동 구분의 기술 상대성이 활동으로서의 즐거움이라는 견해에 얼마만큼 문제를 발생시키는지를 검토한다. 마지막으로 본 논문은 즐거움을 일종의 목적으로 상정하는 것과고유한 즐거움이라는 개념을 도입하는 것이 쾌락주의 비판과의 연관 속에서 어떤의미를 갖는지를 고찰한다.
Abstract
This article explores Aristotle’s theory of pleasure in relation to the theories he has in mind when he constructs his own theory. This article examiNEs how and to what extend his theory deals with the so-called process theory of pleasure, which was Aristotle’s main target, especially by defining pleasure as the activity of the natural state. This article also scrutinizes the distinction between movement and activity, what is the main theoretical tool he uses in attacking the process theory, addressing some difficulties in the distinction and considering whether these difficulties cause trouble to his theory of pleasure itself. Finally, this article discusses the implications of Aristotle’s presentation of pleasure as a kind of end and his conception of proper pleasure in relation to the criticism of hedonism.
