Abstract
This paper examines the mass preferences for labor market policy, employment protection policy, and the government partisanship effect. This paper adds a dimension of intergenerational gap to the insider-outsider politics model by David Rueda. We argue that young outsiders are likely to have higher levels of support for the expansion of labor market policy than their older outsiders. We also argue that the left government partisanship effect on labor market policy and employment protection policy is less likely to be observed where the proportion of youth population is high. Our statistical analysis of the micro-level policy preferences and the macro-level policy outcomes finds the supporting evidence.
