Abstract
Overreporting by self-reported voting contributes to raising questions about validity of the election survey data. But the studies based on survey data have not paid attention to this problem. This paper offers new formula to estimate the ratio of overreporting and insists different meaning of causes of overreporting from the previous studies with aggregate-level data. And it finds out respondents who misreported about their voting with survey data. Empirical findings confirm that even though less than 20 percent of respondents misreported of their voting in 2008 Assembly election in Korea, their overreporting does not deteriorate validity of survey data.
