EU 지역 해외직접투자 결정요인에 관한 연구: FTA의 조절효과를 중심으로

본 논문에서는 2001년부터 2013년 기간 동안 한국(host country)이 투자대상국인유로회원국 28개 국가를 대상으로 해외직접투자 결정요인을 분석하기 위하여 중력모형(Gravity Model)을 사용하여 회귀분석을 시행하여 해외직접투자 결정요인을 파악하고자 한다. 실증분석 결과 교역량이 해외직접투자에 긍정적인 영향을 준다는 결과를 발견하였다. 이는 교역량과 해외직접투자가 보완재 관계에 있다는 것을 지지하는 결과이며, EU 시장에서 수직적 해외직접투자가 이루어지고 있다는 것에 대한 증거가 될 수 있다. 기업의 교역량이 증가할수록 기업은 해외직접투자를 실시하여 다른 제품을 생산하게 되고, 또한 기업의 해외시장의 판매규모가 충분히 크다면 해외시장에서 판매를 가능하게하는 판매위주의 자회사 혹은 생산위주의 자회사가 가능해질 것으로 보인다. 둘째, 교역량과 해외직접투자간 사이의 FTA 발효에 대한 조절효과 검증하였으며, FTA가 교역량과 해외직접투자간 사이의 관계에 순수조절효과를 하는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 FTA는Trade가 해외직접투자에 미치는 양(+)의 영향을 강화시키는 역할을 하고 있는 것으로볼 수 있다. 해외직접투자는 다양한 사회⋅경제적인 효과를 가지고 있으며 고용증가, 교역량 증가효과 등이 대표적임에 따라 교역량과 해외직접투자와의 관련성을 조사한 본연구의 결과는 FTA 체결에 대한 현실적인 함의를 보다 더 제시할 수 있다. 이들 국가간의 해외직접투자의 가능성은 교역량이 작은 국가보다 큰 국가에게 보다 높아진다는시사점을 제공하고 있다. 특히 시장 환경의 변화는 기업의 신규시장으로의 철수 혹은진출에 직접적인 영향을 미치기 때문에 시장의 넓이가 막대한 한-EU간의 FTA를 통해얻어지는 FTA 효과에 대한 의미가 더 중요하다는 시사점을 제공하고 있다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to analyze determinants of foreign direct investment that is conducted by South Korea (host country) to EU (investment country) for 2001 to 2013 using Gravity Model. We explore moderating effect of Free Trade Agreement between trade and foreign direct investment. The result revealed that trade between South Korea and EU had a significant positive effect on foreign direct investment. These findings support Hypothesis 1. It is suggested that trade and foreign direct investment is complementary relationship. It is evidence that vertical FDI has occurred in EU. The results of moderating test revealed a significantly pure mediating effect on Free Trade Agreement between trade and foreign direct investment. It means that the FTA strengthens the positive effect of trades on foreign direct investment.
