Abstract

British Prime Minister, Theresa May, delivered a letter notifying the official withdrawal from the European Union to Donald Tusk, President of the European Council. Therefore, the United Kingdom must negotiate Brexit with the EU for two years, according to Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty. This study aims to analyze British Prime Minister, May’s ‘Hard Brexit’ decision on the British withdrawal from the EU, and the position of the ruling Conservative Party, regarding the main arguments of Brexit, namely single market, immigration control, and burden of contribution to the EU from multidimensional perspectives. Even prior to May’s declaration of hard Brexit, an opinion to control immigrants, rather than to maintain a single market approach, and complaints against high contribution to EU were raised within the Conservative Party. Now, the UK has to carry out negotiations on Brexit with the EU in full swing, and is in the situation to decide the solutions to and negotiate major sensitive issues. How the UK, the first country to withdraw from the EU, will leave a precedent to Europe gains attention.
