Abstract
This study examines the changes of the economic environment in the UK and the EU after the referendum on Brexit. The causes of Brexit can be found not only such as immigration issues, political dymics in the UK, EU contributions, but also in the long historical relationship between the UK and the EU. It is clear that if Brexit is realized, the UK will lose access to the EU single market and both the economies of the UK and the EU will be negatively affected. In particular, untill now, the UK's financial industry has benefited from EU single passporting, but if the benefits of EU membership disappear, the financial sector is expected to be seriously demaged. A new trade agreement between the UK and the EU would be needed if the UK leaves the EU. The current reviewed trade agreement models include the Norwegian model (EEA), the Swiss model, the WTO model, the Turkish Customs Union nodel, the Comprehensive Trade Agreement (CETA) model, the comprehensive free trade zone (DCFTA), which will be difficult to meet the both British interests which are the single market access and the immigrant control. The EU is expected to adopt a tough negotiation strategy because it needs to give the clear disadvantages signal to the countries which wants to withdraw EU membership. In the EU, there is a need for a reform policy that will solve the internal problems that triggered Brexit. I think that the democracy that can effectively reflect the will of the EU citizens should advances, and the policies of EU government and individual government for the losers in the process of globalization are necessary. And considering that the cultural homogeneity has been weakened by the EU enlargement policy which has been going too fast since 2004, a more careful approach will be required for the issue of accession of the Islamic countries such as Turkey joining the EU.
