Abstract

Most of the works on the attitude of the Italian government toward european integration underline its political meaning. But these works, I think, have two serious defects. The one is that they have marginalized Italian economic interest to a considerable extent surbodinating it to political interest. The other is that they have, thus, isot ted economic interest groups from research subjects. This study is to survey how the Confindustria, the most leading Italian business interest grous, was seeing the process of european integration and reacted to it. I propose that the Confindustria was so interested in european integration that it has continuously exercised it's influence on the Italian government and has actively particip ted in the negotiations. I am not intend to insist that the economic interest group was determinately important in the process of european integration. But, afropethe II World War, the Italian businessmen have showed interest in free trade and integration, and searched an ilnbbying or advising the government to take part in the process of europen integration. The thing that I would like to present, is that european integratio is not a mere result of nation's political and economic realism. It sometimes is a complex of interest of various social and economic interests.
