초록

The possibility of a Brexit from the EU became more imminent in 2007 when Article 50 of the Treaty on European Union was introduced. With an upsurge of the exit idea championed by political parties and advocacy groups in 2012, the Prime Minister David Cameron ruled out the immediate occurrence of a referendum but hinted that it would occur later to gauge public views. An inquiry into possible outcomes of the Brexit reveals several uncertainties that face the UK as a country. Conversely, several countries both in Europe and other parts of the world are set to be affected by the decision. Brexit is expected to pose several long-term effects on domestic and international security. The European region shall accrue most of the envisioned security implications alongside the United States of America which has been a key partner of the UK and EU in addressing matters regarding global security. This paper presents findings from a secondary research focusing on the Brexit and the future implications for European security with regard to the upsurge in global terrorism and boarder insecurity.
