본 연구는 NATO 동맹 내에서 폴란드와 한국 사이에 이루어지는 방위산업 협력의 전략적 의미와 경제적 영향을 분석하고자 한다. 폴란드는 러시아의 군사적 위협과 우크라이나 전쟁 등으로 안보 환경이 급변하며 군 현대화와 방위력 강화를 위한 파트너로 한국을 선택하였다. 한국은 첨단 기술과 대규모 생산 능력을 바탕으로 폴란드와의 무기 계약을 체결하였으며, 한국 무기가 NATO 동부전선의 방어에 역할을 하게 되었다. 본 연구는 폴란드가 NATO 내 집단 방위 강화를 위해 한국산 무기를 선택한 이유와 한국이 유럽 방위산업 시장에서 입지를 확대한 과정에 초점을 맞추어, 양국의 방위산업 협력이 NATO의 집단 방위 구조 내에서 한국의 역할을 확대할 가능성을 제시한다. 또한, 본 연구는 양국 방위산업 협력의 경제적 상호 의존성을 분석하고, 이 협력이 양국의 방위산업 경쟁력 강화에 미친 영향을 설명하고자 하며, 트럼프 2기 행정부의 방위비 분담 압박, 대러시아 정책 등이 한국과 폴란드의 협력에 미치는 영향에 대해서도 논의한다. 마지막으로 본 연구는 양국의 안보협력이 지역 안보와 경제적 상호 의존성에 미치는 영향을 다각적으로 조망하여 미래 전망도 제시한다.
Abstract
This study analyzes the strategic significance and economic impact of defense industry cooperation between Poland and South Korea within the NATO alliance. Due to Russia's military threats and the ongoing war in Ukraine, Poland has faced a rapidly changing security environment, prompting its selection of South Korea as a key partner for military modernization and defense capability enhancement. Leveraging its advanced defense technology and large-scale production capacity, South Korea has signed major arms contracts with Poland, contributing to the defense of NATO's eastern flank. This research focuses on the reasons behind Poland's decision to procure South Korean weapons to strengthen NATO's collective defense, as well as South Korea's expanding presence in the European defense market. Additionally, it examines the economic interdependence between the two nations, analyzing how their defense cooperation enhances their respective defense industries. Furthermore, the study explores the potential impact of the second Trump administration's policies such as increased burden-sharing demands within NATO and shifts in U.S. policy toward Russian Poland-South Korea cooperation. By providing a comprehensive assessment of the security and economic dimensions of Poland-South Korea defense collaboration, this study presents insights into its implications for regional security and economic interdependence, as well as prospects for future cooperation between the two nations.
