Abstract

Downsizing is one strategy of the management innovation for shifting the organizational structure from what it is now to what it has to be in order to sustain competitive advantage and satisfy customer's needs, achieve improved results of operations in future periods. But for the problem of research design and approach, empirical researches of downsizing on financial performance and market reaction are inconclusive. many researchers found no consistent association between past/future financial performance․market reaction and downsizing. Until recently, previous research on downsizing has mostly focused on the issues such as the "survivor's syndrome, reducing cost, reaction of market". But as Chadwick et al. argued, the majority of the studies concluded that there was negative effects from downsizing. Nevertheless downsizing must be well managed, well researched for which many firms introduced downsizing as a core strategy of management innovation. This study propose a management step model(pre-step, process-step, post-step) as an integrated approach focus on management innovation. Management step notion(pre-step, process-step, post-step) are hypothesized to test the relationship between experience of downsizing and recognition of membership.
