Abstract

This study compares happiness levels in four countries in Central Asia. In this study, SWB is estimated through the happiness function using WVS data. The happiness function includes life satisfaction, feelings of happiness, and subjective feelings of health. According to the analysis results, the country with the highest SWB value is Tajikistan with the lowest level of economic development. The value of SWB is 9.14. Next is Uzbekistan's SWB value of 9.10, which is at a high level. The SWB values of Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, which have relatively high levels of economic development among Central Asian countries, are 7.87 and 7.09, respectively, which are relatively low compared to Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. From this result, it can be seen that among the Central Asian countries, there is no positive relationship between the level of economic development and the level of happiness. In other words, it can be seen in the same context as the Easterlin paradox.
