라틴아메리카 지역의 국가들은 상대적으로 낮은 소득과 사회 수준에도 불구하고 높은 행복 수준을 보이고 있다. 본 연구는 라틴아메리카의 높은 행복 수준을 결정하는 요인의 도출을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해 우선 본 연구는 대표적인 행복지수들에서 라틴아메리카의 행복수준을 다른 지역 및 국가들과 비교하여 살펴보았다. 대표적인 행복지수들을 중심으로 볼 때, 라틴아메리카 국가들은 투입을 중심으로 행복을 측정하는 행복지수보다 주관적 안녕에 기반을 두고 행복을 측정하는 지수에서 높은 행복 수준을 보여주고 있다. 이러한 사실을 근거로 본 연구는 라틴아메리카 행복 관련 연구에 대한 분석을 통해, 가족과 사회적 관계를 라틴아메리카의 행복을 결정하는 가능성이 높은 요인들로 제시하고 있다. 특히 본 연구는 신뢰 수준 및 가족 관계 데이터를 근거로 가족 간의 친밀성과 상호 부조를 라틴아메리카인들이 보여주는 높은 수준의 주관적 행복을 설명하는 중요한 요인으로 제시하고 있다.
Abstract
Latin American countries show relatively high level of happiness in spite of low income level as well as weak social indicators. This study aims as identifying the determinants of relatively high level of happiness in Latin America. To do so, the most cited happiness indexes were examined in terms of Latin American context. After examining existing happiness indexes, this paper concludes that Latin American countries recorded high scores on indexes which measure subjective well-being. Such findings suggest that the relatively high level of happiness in Latin America stems from its high satisfaction of family as well as social relationships. In addition, based on data on level of trust and family relationship, this study states that family practices of closeness as well as mutual support stand out as the most significant determinants of relatively high level of happiness in Latin America.
