초록
This study evaluated the effects of dietary supplementation with quercetin on growth, feed utilization, innate immunity, apparent digestibility coefficients (ADCs) and disease resistance of Pacific white shrimp Penaeus vannamei. A basal diet (Con) was formulated, and two other diets were supplemented with graded levels of quercetin at 0.1 and 0.2% (designated Q0.1 and Q0.2, respectively). After 53 days of the feeding trial, growth performance and feed utilization were higher in shrimp-fed quercetin-supplemented diets than in those fed the Con diet. Dietary quercetin supplementation promoted innate immune responses and increased the ADC of shrimp proteins. Insulin-like growth factors-binding protein gene expression was upregulated following dietary quercetin supplementation. Shrimp fed the Q0.1 diet showed significantly increased resistance to Vibrio parahaemolyticus compared with shrimp fed the Con diet. The optimal dietary inclusion level of quercetin appears to be approximately 0.1–0.2% in the shrimp diet. These results indicate that dietary quercetin supplementation can be used as a feed additive to improve growth, feed utilization, immunity, protein digestibility, and disease resistance in Pacific white shrimp.
