Abstract

Hyun Ju Chan Han Jo(1572~1631) had lived through the era of three kings, Shen Jo, Gwang Hae Gune and In Jo, in Chosun Dynasty. When Gwang Hae Gune took the helm of state affairs and the state of a government became a political chaos, Hyun Ju requested voluntarily a local government post, and then he had lived in a local most of his life. Until now, the research about the Hyun Ju’s literatures have been mostly focused on poetry. However this thesis deals with Hyun Ju’s biography. There are four biographies of the Hyun Ju ; Song Seng Jeun, Dae Bu Gong Jeun, Tang Pa Jeun, Hae Sang Cho A Gaek Jeun. Song Seng Jeun is real biography about the relation and the fate of Guan Pil and Song Hee Gap who was borne in Hwei Dug of Chungcheong-do. The others are literary works based on the metaphor. Therefore, this thesis deals with mainly three works ; Dae Bu Gong Jeun, Tang Pa Jeun, Hae Sang Cho A Gaek Jeun except Song Seng Jeun. Dae Bu Gong Jeun and Tang Pa Jeun respectively personified pine tree and a hot-water bottle. Hae Sang Cho A Gaek Jeun dealt with conduct of life and referred to historical fact objectively and concretely. Hyun Ju’s work described unfair social and political environment and presented what virtue is needed at that time. This is the reason why his work is attractive. He satirized the society by personifying pine tree, a hot-water bottle, and fishing, etc. In addition, he inspired self-reflection and right diagnosis of political society. Criticism is not pleasant but essential and satire makes attention on corrupt political society.
