Abstract
Based on existing studies on word of mouth communications this study looked at the impact of online shopping situations on consumers' brand attitudes by online review types. It has been verified that level of involvement plays a controlling role in the relationship between online review types and brand attitudes. The findings are as follows. First, consumers' brand attitudes due to internal motivation reviews were higher than positive reviews (statement of compensation) and positive reviews(non-statement of compensation) in online shopping situations, and consumers' brand attitudes due to positive reviews(statement of compensation) showed no significant difference than positive reviews(non-statement of compensation). Second, in the case of high-involvement products, the brand attitude was higher in the internal motivation than in the positive reviews(statement of compensation), the positive reviews(non-statement of compensation) and the double-sided review were not significantly different, and the brand attitude of consumers was higher in the positive reviews(non-statement of compensation) than positive reviews (statement of compensation). Finally, in the case of low-involvement products, internal and positive reviews (statement of compensation) and positive reviews(non-statement of compensation) showed no significant difference in online shopping situations, but internal and positive reviews(non-statement of compensation) showed significant differences. In order to enhance the brand attitude of consumers who refer to reviews before purchasing products in online shopping situations, these findings suggest that online reviews written without falsehood are more effective from the perspective of real consumers with positive and negative assessments than double-sided review. For high-involvement products, positive reviews written as rewards can rather create negative feelings for consumers, so hiding the fact that companies offer rewards when writing online reviews rather than frankly informing them that they are online reviews by rewards can help create positive effects and future marketing strategies.
